The app is not yet signed or notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time you open it. Signing and notarization are planned. To open it:

  1. Open the DMG and drag PDFApps to Applications.
  2. Open PDFApps once. When the warning appears, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway and confirm. On older macOS versions, you can instead right-click the app and choose Open.
  3. If macOS says the app is damaged, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/PDFApps.app in Terminal and open PDFApps again.

Install from the Snap Store or the AUR. A pre-built tar.gz archive is also available.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu / Debian / Snap

Snap Store package, auto-updates handled by snapd
sudo snap install pdfapps
Arch Linux

Arch / Manjaro

From the AUR. Source build (lightweight) or pre-compiled binary.
yay -S pdfapps # source yay -S pdfapps-bin # binary

tar.gz (other distros)

Pre-built archive. It needs system libraries that it does not include, such as libGL, and may not start on a minimal install. The Snap or the AUR is recommended.
tar -xzf PDFApps-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz && ./PDFApps
Download tar.gz
Optional

External tools

For OCR and advanced compression. PDFApps works without these but two tools require them.

Tesseract OCR

Required by the OCR tool to recognize text in scanned PDFs.

Ghostscript

Used by the "extreme" compression level for maximum file size reduction.

The Microsoft Store package bundles both automatically. On Linux, install from your package manager.
